Es geht darum, was man erkennt. Wenigstens für sich. Je älter man wird, desto mehr traut man seiner empirischen Erfahrung. Klar, man weiß, dass das nur eine winzig kleine Stichprobe ist, die möglicherweise begrenzten Aussagewert über das Ganze hat. Und doch wächst man in etwas hinein, dem man vielleicht aus gutem Grund misstraut, das aber einen zunehmenden Wert für einen selbst hat. Man hat schlichtweg dermaßen viele Erfahrungen angesammelt, dass man sich traut, das in den eigenen Erkenntnisprozess mit einzubeziehen. Man schaut damit anders in die Welt hinaus als in der Zeit, als man noch viel jünger war. Rein kognitiv. Natürlich ist man sich klaren darüber, dass die eigene soziale Herkunft die Wahrnehmung der Welt geprägt hat, dass die soziale Gruppe, in der man sich bewegt hat, zusammen mit den damit verknüpften Erfahrungen, uns stark geprägt hat: einer der Gründe, wieso man der eigenen Erfahrung jahrelang misstraut hat. Außerdem provozieren Eigenschaften von Menschen gewisse Erfahrungen, die dann wieder vom jeweiligen Menschen gerne verallgemeinert werden und seine Voreinstellungen bestätigen. Informationen im Einklang mit den eigenen Grundeinstellungen zu verarbeiten und gleichzeitig Gegenargumente auszublenden, entspricht vielleicht einem Grundbedürfnis und mag ein grundsätzliches kognitives Grundprinzip kennzeichnen. Dabei geht es wohl nicht nur am Rande um die Reduzierung von Komplexität. It's about what you see. At least for yourself. The older you get, the more you trust your empirical experience. Sure, you know that this is just a tiny sample that may have limited value for the whole. And yet you grow into something that you may distrust for good reason, but which has increasing value to you. You have simply accumulated so much experience that you dare to include it in your own process of knowledge. Of course, one is aware that one's own social background has shaped the perception of the world, that the social group in which one has moved, together with the experiences associated with it, has strongly shaped us: one of the reasons why one distrusted his own experience for years. In addition, characteristics of people provoke certain experiences, which are then happily generalized by the respective person and confirm his or her preconceptions. Processing information in accordance with one's own basic attitudes and at the same time ignoring counter-arguments may correspond to a basic need and may characterize a basic cognitive principle. It's probably not just about reducing complexity.
