Staat, Bürger und Wohlstand

Es kommt mir manchmal so vor, als würde der sog. „Wohlstand“ Menschen in einen Kokon aus Trägheit, Gleichgültigkeit und Ignoranz stürzen. Mitmenschlichkeit, Empathie und derartige Eigenschaften scheinen mir dabei unversehens/ schleichend verloren zu gehen. Ist es so, dass aus Mangelgesellschaften zwangsläufig Mitgefühl und Kooperation erwächst? Dies mag auch mit der Konstruktion eines „Sozialstaats“ zusammenhängen, in dem auch soziale Belange an den Staat delegiert werden, also an eine zunächst anonyme Institution. Der Trick dabei scheint mir zu sein, dass sich hinter dem Wort „Staat“ die Gesamtheit aller Bürger verbirgt/verbergen könnte. Ob da Beamte mit ihrer großzügigen Altersvorsorge in eine solche Struktur passen? Nicht die einzige Frage, die einen in diesem Zusammenhang umtreiben mag. Dass dieser Schritt zur Identität des Staats in den meisten Köpfen nicht vollzogen wurde, scheint mir auch eine Folge davon zu sein, dass doch jeder „den Staat“ so gut zu seinem Vorteil auszunutzen versucht, wie es nur möglich ist. Ganze Berufsstände haben sich mit diesem Ziel etabliert. x x It sometimes seems to me as if so-called “prosperity” plunges people into a cocoon of indolence, indifference and ignorance. Humanity, empathy and such qualities seem to be suddenly/slowly lost to me. Is it the case that compassion and cooperation inevitably arise from societies with scarcity? This may also be related to the construction of a “welfare state” in which social concerns are delegated to the state, i.e. to an initially anonymous institution. The trick here seems to me to be that the entirety of all citizens is/could be hidden behind the word “state”. Do civil servants with their generous pension provision fit into such a structure? Not the only question that may be on your mind in this context. The fact that this step towards the identity of the state has not been taken in most minds also seems to me to be a consequence of the fact that everyone tries to use “the state” to their advantage as best as possible. Entire professions have established themselves with this connection.
